What Can We Do?
While working with this group of children and patients, who were lucky enough to be supported by Familias de Esperanza, I couldn’t help but wonder why more wasn’t being done to improve malnutrition. Familias de Esperanza supplied those in its program with schools, afterschool programs, a nursery, health and dental care, a free or almost free pharmacy, a construction site, which provided some families with new housing etc. But there was no program to help solve malnutrition and only one nutritionist was employed. Why wasn’t it a bigger priority? And what can be done to make it one both in Guatemala and around the world?
